The leaves of mountain mint are rich in limonene, menthone, pulgeon, and menthol. 

While they are not as pungent as the true mints, such as culinary peppermint or spearmint, mountain mints are certainly useful for herbal teas, cider, coffee, tinctures, and salves. Historically, mountain mint flowers were used to treat tooth aches.
